WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DENTAL IMPLANTS
The dental implant process is a biological process called
osseointegration.
A dental implant uses a small "anchor" typically
made of titanium to bond with the bone.
The dental implant is inserted into the jawbone and is made to look just
like a natural tooth would look and have the same function of a natural tooth. When the surrounding bone has attached to the implant, a
replacement tooth is secured to the top of the implant. The new tooth looks,
feels, and performs just like your natural teeth.
THE BASIC DENTAL IMPLANT PROCEDURE
The dental implant procedure is performed right at the
Robison Dental Group Mesa AZ office. Dr. Robison may use a local or a general
anesthesia depending on your sensitivity and a few other factors, Dr. Robison
will determine what is best for you during your consultation.
In brief, Dr. Robison places the implant into your jaw, and
over the next several months bone will securely attach to the implant surface
thus anchoring it, then a dental prosthetic is (a tooth, bridge or denture), is
attached to the implant or an abutment is placed which will hold a dental
prosthetic in place.
Success or failure of implants depends on the health of the
person receiving it. Before the option of getting a dental implant can even be
considered, Dr. Robison will need to perform an evaluation to assure you are in
good health and have sufficient healthy bone and gingiva.
